Smart joins the Confidencial team in expanding its platform and leveraging additional advanced cryptographic techniques to protect distributed enterprises.
Menlo Park, CA - December 20, 2022. Confidencial announced today the appointment of Nigel Smart to its Advisory Board.
Prof. Nigel Smart is a world-renowned cryptography researcher, author, and entrepreneur, best known for his work in elliptic curve cryptography, fully homomorphic encryption, and multi-party computation.

Smart has held a Royal Society Wolfson Merit Award, two ERC Advanced Grants, and was Vice President of the International Association for Cryptologic Research (2014-2016). In 2016 he was named a Fellow of the IACR.
Smart was a founder of the startup Identum, which was bought by Trend Micro in 2008. In 2013 he co-founded Unbound Security, which was sold to Coinbase in 2022. He is also the co-founder, along with Kenny Paterson, of the Real World Cryptography conference series. Since 2018, Smart has been based in the COSIC group at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.
